Our Mission

We Grow Fresh Produce and Reduce Carbon Emissions at the Same Time

BioDome was founded originally in order to reduce carbon emissions in the agriculture industry by removing the shipping and processing steps. We have the ability to bring food production to places otherwise thought impossible, creating better localized supply chains, greener communities, and access to fresh food. We aim to eliminate food deserts in the US, and while that is a tall ask with many logistical hurdles, we have to strive to have as much of an impact as possible. We want to bring people the type of healthy food that will not only allow them to survive, but to actually thrive.

How BioDome Works

Sustainable Indoor Farming Greenhouses

BioDome is powered by solar energy, collects its own rainwater, and uses a series of computer systems to monitor and optimize plant growth. We build BioDomes in urban areas, partnering with schools, universities, office buildings, and communities to provide people in the area with fresh, beyond organic produce to promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce carbon impact.

How BioDome Gets Its Power

Each BioDome is powered mostly by solar energy. It is able to offset upwards of 65% of the energy the BioDome consumes on a daily basis.

How BioDome Collects Water

BioDome has a proprietary rainwater collection, filtration, and water reutilization system which allows it to support all the watering needs of the plants within it with no need for external water. The units can last for weeks to months without rainfall.

Fully Automated Grow Process

Each BioDome uses a computer system which monitors and grows plants by itself, controlling lighting, temperature, watering, and humidity. This controlled environment system (CEA), coupled with the other vertical farming techniques in place make BioDomes extremely efficient, and they call for minimal labor to operate.

Here's what we're growing now in a BioDome near you:

Parsley
Basil
Basil

Turning Rooftops Into Sustainable Food Sources For Communities

BioDome does not grow any fruits or vegetables that grow on trees due to size restrictions. We also do not grow root vegetables such as potatoes, onions, and carrots as they are not as efficient in our systems. BioDome is happy to do specialty produce for restaurants upon request.

What is ‘Beyond Organic’?

Most people are familiar with the 'organic' label, but are not aware that there are actually 2 different organic labels. The tow labels are 'organic' and 'USDA certified organic'. The 'organic' label is for products that claim to use the approved methods of production or cultivation or have a critical mass of organic ingredients. The 'USDA certified organic' label is given out by the USDA certifying that a producer meets all of the necessary organic requirements. At BioDome, we go a step beyond. We not only meet the USDA organic standards, but we exceed them, as the only thing to ever touch our produce is water and nutrients. We have full transparency about our growing processes because we believe that food should be healthy, clean, and delicious.

Is BioDome Produce Organic?

BioDome's produce is not organic or USDA certified organic. We had to create our own classification of 'beyond organic' because we not only meet the USDA organic guidelines, but we exceed them. We cannot receive the USDA certified organic label because we grow our plants using hydroponics. That's a fancy way of saying we don't use soil. Our plants grow using just water, nutrients, and science. Since the USDA certified organic guidelines currently dictate plants must be grown in soil, we are ineligible for the certification despite exceeding all other aspects of the certification. The only things to ever come in contact with our plants are water and nutrients, making us the cleanest, freshest produce you'll ever taste.

How Do You Grow Plants Indoors?

We use a combination of hydroponics and grow lights to grow plants fully indoors. Our plants don't need any soil, our hydroponics system allows plants to grow using just water and nutrients. This allows us to grow out-of-season produce locally all year long using climate control systems. Having our plants inside also means we don't have to worry about pests, meaning we don't have to use any chemicals or pesticides.
